GORGEOUS HAND-PAINTED ANTIQUE ITALIAN CAMEO
Part of the Grand Tour experience in the late 1800s

This is a gorgeous and ethereal antique hand-painted cameo from Italy.
These pieces were highly prized souvenirs of The Grand Tour many young
women took of Europe in the late 1800s. These pieces usually are inspired by a
piece of Renaissance art and this particular cameo is in exceptional condition. Artists used extremely thin brushes, some only a hair or two, to create these detailed works
of art on the small scale using vellum as the canvas. This piece has been very well
cared for, as the colors remain vibrant and rich after the passage of time. She’s
so lovely, likely a bride, with complex hair piece, accented by pearls, and a
sweet, demure face. The detail is exceptional, even the countryside behind
her, with a small house and rolling hills, remains clear. Set in 800 silver
mount with scrolled border. Likely there’s an artist signature under
the edge of the frame. Exceptional heirloom quality antique
hand-painted cameo.
